Valentine Dudensing and Friends

(1922 -1948)
Speaker: Nancy Rivard Shaw
Curator Emerita, American Art, Detroit Institute of Arts
Chair for the evening is: Joe Posch

Valentine Dudensing was once one of the best known art dealers in New York.  From 1922 until he retired to France in 1948, his gallery was a major center for European art.  Dudensing specialized in School of Paris paintings, long before these works were readily accepted by the American public.  He also supported a select group of Americans, including John Kane, Louis Eilshemius and Joseph Stella.  This talk focuses on thirteen artists - some long since forgotten, others forgotten and rediscovered, and some forgotten again.
