A FEMININE APPROACH IV

CMSC’s April 8th program is devoted to the works of women composers. The Ann Arbor-based Stratus Ensemble (flute and percussion) will make its CMSC debut performing Hair, Cloth and Thread by Valerie Coleman, composer and flutist with the Imani Winds.

This concert also features Ethel Smyth’s String Quintet, Op. 1. This very fresh and inventive quintet was published in 1884 and is written for 2 violins, viola and two cellos. Dame Ethel Smyth was a strong and creative British composer who was also known for her contribution to the suffragette movement.
