Don’t miss Chamber Music at the Scarab Club’s first live-streamed concert!

Velda Kelly and Mary Siciliano have prepared a short program of beautiful music for violin and piano by Jean-Marie Leclair, William Grant Still, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor and Edward Elgar. We hope this program will bring you a little peace and joy! The concert will be livestreamed from the lounge gallery with Mary Siciliano playing on the Scarab Club’s Pleyel piano, which dates from the 1870’s.

MARY SICILIANO has a multi-faceted career. She performs throughout the United States, Canada and France and as a piano clinician has presented workshops and master classes in all three countries. She received her Master’s in Piano Performance from the University of Michigan, where she was awarded the Joseph Brinkman award for outstanding performance. Her former teachers include David Renner, Marian Owen, Eugene Bossart and Louis Nagel. She was on the piano faculty at Oakland University, where she taught applied piano and piano ensemble and coordinated the piano pedagogy program. She has also taught piano pedagogy classes at the University of Michigan, Madonna University and Schoolcraft College. She currently has a very successful private studio and continues to give pedagogy workshops throughout the state of Michigan and recently taught in the Interlochen Adult Education Seminar.

Violinist VELDA KELLY has been teaching and performing in metropolitan Detroit since 1983. As the recipient of a Music Assistance Fund fellowship, Ms. Kelly moved to this area to play with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for three seasons, from 1983 until 1986. She holds music degrees from Boston University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where her violin teachers included Henry Meyer, Joseph Silverstein and Denes Zsigmondy. Ms. Kelly is a member of the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra and also has an active chamber music career. She and former MOT principal cellist Nadine Deleury co-founded and are the artistic directors of Chamber Music at the Scarab Club. Ms. Kelly is an extra musician with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, has a large class of private violin students, and is on the faculty of Madonna University. She has also taught for the Sphinx Preparatory Academy, MSU’s Community Music School in Detroit and Wayne State University.

The Scarab Club is supported in part by awards from the Kresge Foundation, Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation and the National  Endowment for the Arts.
